Is your Windows computer up to date?

If you have Windows 7, Windows 10, or Windows 11 version 24H2 then your answer is probably No! You may say that “its fine, it does what I need it to do”.

However you are missing vital security updates that come out regularly to protect you against spoofs, phishing and scams.

Microsoft support for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro ends on 13 October 2026.

After that date, these versions will no longer receive monthly security updates, fixes for known problems or technical support.

How can you check your version?

  1. Press Windows key + R
  2. Type winver
  3. Press Enter

Microsoft has begun rolling out Windows 11 26H2, but the rollout is being completed gradually. If it has not yet been offered to your computer, there may be a compatibility hold involving its hardware, drivers or software.

Before upgrading, check:

• Your backup is current and working
• Your BitLocker recovery key is available
• There is sufficient free storage
• Firmware and important drivers are current
• Your printers and scanners are compatible
• Your essential business and specialist software will still work

Do not bypass a Microsoft compatibility hold simply to obtain the new version sooner. The hold may be preventing an upgrade that could cause a known problem on your computer.

Keeping Windows supported is important—but checking that you can upgrade safely is just as important.
