SPF, DKIM and DMARC – protecting your business email

Your business domain is part of your identity. Email security controls help prevent someone else from pretending to send email from it.

Three important technologies work together:

SPF defines which mail servers are authorised to send email on behalf of your domain.

DKIM adds a digital signature to outgoing email, allowing the receiving mail system to verify that the message was authorised by the signing domain and has not been altered in transit.

DMARC brings SPF and DKIM together. It checks whether email is properly authenticated and aligned with the domain shown to the recipient, and tells receiving mail systems what to do when those checks fail.

But simply having SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured isn’t the end of the job.

DMARC can generate reports showing who is actually sending email using your domain. Those reports can reveal legitimate systems that have been configured incorrectly—or potentially someone attempting to spoof your domain.

TELIT has automated the collection and analysis of these reports, making it easier to identify authentication failures, configuration problems and suspicious use of a business domain.

Email authentication shouldn’t just be configured. It should be monitored.
